French Christmas Word Wall

It’s almost December – time to get your French Christmas word wall ready!

Your students will love to expand or review their Christmas-related vocabulary with these cards.

And they can use the words on the letter they’ll write to Santa!

French Christmas Word Wall

Word walls are great because they’re a visual reminder for students so they can find the word(s) they’re looking for.

Click to learn more about activities you can do with the word wall cards and for ideas on how to hang the cards.

This Christmas set includes more than 15 illustrations with the corresponding words.

Some illustrations come in two versions because the objects might have different names depending on where you teach French, e.g. “un sapin” or “un arbre de Noël”.

Once you have introduced the words and put the cards up, you won’t have to keep writing the words on the board anymore.

Whenever a student asks you how to say “reindeer” in French, all you have to do is point to the word wall!

Christmas is also a great theme for some really fun writing activities.

There are two prompts in this set: a gift list and a letter to Santa Claus.

For the gift list, you could ask your students one of two options:

  • make a list of gifts they’d love to receive and the reasons why that gift would be useful or important for them
  • make a list of gifts they’d love to give to family and friends and again the reasons for their choices

The writing templates come in color and B&W and to save on copies, print 2 pages per sheet.

I’ve also included graphic organizers so your students can write down the things a character CAN, IS, or HAVE.

For example, Rodolphe PEUT voler, le lutin EST travailleur, or le père Noël A un traîneau.

There’s a page for each of four characters: le père Noël, la mère Noël, Rodolphe, and le lutin.

After filling out the graphic organizers, you can have students present their ideas to improve their speaking skills!
